Results are in from the county fair held here in Zihuatanejo Jan. 26th-Feb. 6th. 120,000 people came, up from 86,000 just 2 years ago. With rides, games, food, live music and much more, it was not to be missed. A highlight was the opening night performance of the Acapulco Philharmonic. It was a big success, well organized and great fun for whole the community. We look forward to next year’s.
Zihuatanejo’s main Catholic Church, Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe would like to welcome Father Apolinar. Originally from this area, Father Apolinar was raised in the US and will now be offering Catholic Masses here in English, Saturdays at 5pm. The church is located on Cinco de Mayo across from the tourist market.
Ixtapa now has a 24hr restaurant, the Zeta Club. Located on the corner next to Señor Frogs, Zeta Club Restaurant & Bar is open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, perfect for those late nights when everything else has been closed for hours.

And they also offer monthly business seminars for a very small fee. Last month’s was Internet for Dummies, 100p for members and 150p for non-members. They are located in Centro Zihua, on Nicloas Bravo at the corner of Vicente Guerrero, between Everest Language school and the sporting goods shop. CPR classes are being offered at the Hotel Paraiso by appointment, with a Red Cross certified instructor . The cost is 100p, call Hotel Paraiso 554-3873 for information. CPR is a life saving skill and especially important for those of us living on the water. If you don’t know it, now is a great time to learn.
We have a new Check Cashing Office, Intercam: Casa de Cambio, located in Ixtapa, which (for a small membership fee) provides international check cashing and money transfer services.
On the social front, we have had several parties lately. First, a fund raiser for Niños Adelante (see article) sponsored by Kate and Andrew of Nirvana and their friends John and Yvette (Speedy), the theme was the Age of Aquarius, and everyone came decked out. Sincretismo provided the music. Thanks to all who contributed, over $300 dollars was raised for the kids.
Rick and Cissy had a rocking pig roast for Shirley and Paula’s 50th birthdays’ at Hotel Paraiso and everyone put a good dent in the food and drink.
And last but not least, speaking of fundraisers, the Zihuatanejo Ecological Society is seeking donations. The group serves to preserve and improve the ecological environment of the city, bay and the surrounding areas. To inquire or make donations, contact Anita at Bungalows Pacificos (755)- 42112.
